What is EFT?
EFT is a technique by
which the bodys energy system is affected through tapping
on various acupressure points. These points are the end points of
the meridians and are well known in the 5000 year old Chinese
acupuncture system.
While thinking about a
problem, emotional or physical, and tapping at the same
time, you
can experience an immediate or almost immediate relief from the
symptom. EFT has about an 80% clinically proven success rate. EFT
is based on the premise that, "The cause of all negative
emotions is a disruption in the bodys energy system."
Although this is a relatively new discovery, more and more
research is being done in this area supporting what EFT and other
energy modalities are based on.
History of EFT
The development of EFT can
be traced back to the early 1960s when George Goodheart,
D.C. developed Applied Kinesiology which involved tapping on
meridian acupressure points to relieve pain. In the mid
1980s psychologist Roger Callahan discovered that tapping
on acupressure points helped eliminate unwanted emotions such as
fears, phobias, anxiety, depression and traumatic memories. Dr.
Callahans work was called Thought Field Therapy (TFT). Gary
Craig, the founder of EFT, was one of Callahans early
students. EFT is based on the same procedures as TFT however, it
has been simplified and made easier to use while still obtaining
the same excellent results.
Benefits of EFT
The benefits from EFT can
be immediate. Sometimes it only takes one session to get positive
results. Often the problem is more complex requiring that
different aspects need to be addressed. The client can also learn
how to do the tapping themselves to use in different situations.
Some of the issues that
can be worked on are: emotional issues, traumatic memories,
fears, phobias, anxiety, low self esteem, stress, depression,
addictions and cravings. It can also be used for physical issues
such as pain, asthma, allergies, eyesight, etc. The more
emotional components present in the physical issue, the better
result.
